Uganda’s tourism ministry has given an announcement that it will strategically use ‘well endowed’ women to attract tourism into the country.
Instead of seeing this move as offensive, the ministry says that Uganda must start appreciating curvier figures over smaller ones.
“We have naturally endowed, nice-looking women that are amazing to look at. Why don’t we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry?” the Minister of Tourism of Uganda, Godfrey Kiwanda has been reported to have said.
“Miss Curvy Uganda”, which is a beauty pageant, has already been established in the country.
Critics have said that this approach is not the “right approach” but that similar to social media, it will begin to gain traction. Others have said that it will only objectify women.
In 2018, tourism brought in US$1.4 billion into the Ugandan economy.
