Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has nicknamed Ghana’s 2023 Budget “Ɛka Mpɛ Dede” in reference to what he describes as excessive borrowing leading to an unprecedented rise in Ghana’s national debt.
The Minority Leader, in his first reaction to the budget presented by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on Thursday, November 24, 2022, accused the government of economic mismanagement, which according to him, has put the economy on “life support.”
To him, Ɛka Mpɛ Dede, (which means debt hates noise) is an apt description of Ghana’s current economic situation.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin adjourned the House to Friday, November 25, when members are expected to consider it for adoption.
