Senior Pastor of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has criticised Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency, over allegations of vote-buying during the party’s recent primaries.
The comments follow the emergence of videos from the February 7, 2026 NDC primaries, which showed some delegates publicly displaying television sets and other items allegedly gifted by Baba Jamal.
When questioned by journalists over the development, Baba Jamal denied engaging in vote-buying, insisting the items were personal gifts and not intended to influence voting.
“What is wrong if television sets are given to people? Is this the first time I’m gifting things to people?” he asked.
“Those who know me know that every Christmas, I gift people. I have even put down 2.5 million to lend to people. It is not vote buying. If somebody gives you a gift, you can take it, but allowing that gift to influence your vote is wrong.”
In response, Prophet Oduro, during his Sunday sermon on January 8, 2026, questioned the source of the funds allegedly used for the gifts, expressing concern over what he described as the growing impunity of politicians.
“I saw a video yesterday of a man speaking after sharing televisions with people for votes, and his comment was, ‘Every year I put 2 million aside.’ Where did you get the 2 million from?” he asked.
“Let God allow you to stay in opposition for twelve years, and let’s see if you can produce a pesewa.”
The outspoken cleric further questioned whether the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) was aware of the alleged funds and whether taxes had been paid on them.
“Which job are you doing to get 2 million to give away as gifts? Does GRA know that you produce 2 million, and do you pay taxes on it for this nation?”
“The impunity of politicians to talk nonsense to the citizenry because they were given privileges and opportunities. And you spit in their face like this? You put down 2 million—where did you get that 2 million?” he added.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has recalled Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, following the vote-buying allegations linked to the primaries.
The NDC has also announced that it is conducting its own internal investigations into the matter.
Despite the controversy, Baba Jamal is still expected to contest the March 3 Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election on the party’s ticket.
