Currently, women are under-represented in the tourism sector as with other key developmental sectors in Ghana. According to United Nation World Tourism Organization, women make up the majority of the tourism workforce in the most region of the world and yet they are concentrated in the lowest paid and the lowest status job in tourism.

Women in Tourism organised its end of the year meeting and gala dinner held on Sunday December 2, 2018 at Accra Tourism Information Center in Accra.

The event was to climax the activities and programs of Women in Tourism in the year 2018 and highlight on the activities for the year 2019. Also was to feast and treat the Children of the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind to food, drinks and gift items for the Christmas festivities.

The president of the Women in Tourism group, Nancy Quartey Sam (Mrs.) in a short speech, explained that with tourism being one of the lucrative sectors Ghana can boast about, her 30-year experience in the tourism industry revealed that there are many women in the tourism industry who have the passion to move the sector forward.

According to her, “these women only need a push in realizing their potentials and realizing their goals.” She averred that the summit will not only make more women independent but heighten the country’s financial status.

The night brought together dignitaries, women game-changers, mission-driven companies and individuals, professionals and leaders in tourism like; Mrs. Cynthia Morrison, Minister for Gender and Children Affairs was there to support as woman, also to support and solidarise with Women in Tourism in their mission to help and support the disabled and underprivileged in society; H.E. Lulu Xingwana, High Commission of South Africa in Ghana; H.E. Charles B. Yosob; High Commission of Namibia in Ghana, Maria Jose A. Darkus, Embassy of the Republic of Angola (Head of Tourism & Culture Department); H.E. Claudia Turbay, High Commission of Colombia in Ghana; Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Ambassador Nancy Sam Quartey, President of Women In Tourism, Ghana; Nana Mbroba Dabo I, The Paramount Queen Mother of Anomabo Traditional Area and more more.

Women in Tourism is under the auspices of Ministry of Tourism to intensify economic independence among Ghanaian women and to bring a much-needed female voice to grow tourism.
