Africa’s baddest female DJ, Nana Kessewa Adu better known as DJ Kess has been listed among the artists to be performing at the 2019 SXSW Music Festival, which is slated for March 11-17, 2019. The announcement was made known in November of 2018. Aside from DJ Kess, who is known for her music mixing skills on Y Lounge between 7-10pm on YFM, Kessewa is also known for records including ‘Thinking of You’, ‘Take Away’, ‘Whine Dat’ and more!

DJ Kess will be joined by his Ghanaian counterparts, E.L, Samini, Efya and Jojo Abot at the festival which will take place in Austin, Texas. Other African artists booked to perform at the festival includes Simi, Adekunle Gold, Mayorkun, Vector, Falz, Mr Eazi, Seyi Shay, Yemi Alade, Casper Nyovest, Victoria Kimani, Khaligraph and Anatii.

DJ Kess discovered her talent in Senior High School (Archbishop Porter Girls, Takoradi) when she was made the school’s official DJ. Her passion to become a DJ grew bigger when she realized that she could learn and become a good DJ and a music producer, now that she has access to all the sound equipment the school had. What looked like a one-time wonder now became Kess’s profession after immense training. She has been djing professionally as a radio DJ with YFM for the past 10 years.

Disc jockeying is a male-dominated industry with almost every famous DJ being a man from the likes of DJ Clue, DJ Khaled and David Guetta. But gradually, female DJs are making headways all over the world and undoubtedly, DJ Kess is one of such in Africa!?? She took female djing in Ghana to a different level, djing on radio, clubs and big events.?? DJ Kess is a holder of ”??Best Female DJ” at the Ghana DJ Awards two times in a row. She was also nominated for the ”Best Female DJ” at the African Global DJ Awards 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference & Festivals celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW is the premier destination for discovery. Each year, the SXSW Music Festival brings together the global music industry alongside film and technology professionals to make personal and business connections as well as discover the next generation of talent. Not limited in the genre or regional focus, fans, fellow musicians, industry professionals, and creatives from every discipline can enjoy a variety of musical styles at SXSW.

Showcases are curated by SXSW in collaboration with record labels, booking agencies, management and PR firms, export offices, publishers, media outlets, lifestyle brands, festivals and more. Performances take place in bars, clubs, parks, churches and hotels around downtown Austin.
