Musician Davido has served an indication of his readiness to venture into politics.

It may not be the case of ditching music to become a politician as the artiste says he may be practicing both.

In an interview with Channel 24, David Adedeji Adeleke as the musician is known in real life said: “I might probably go into politics. If I’m not in it 100%, I might just be around. There’s a lot of things going home that’s not right. If I was in that position, there’s a lot of things I’ll do differently.”

Davido has recently been more focused on party politics. He was very active in the campaign to get his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke elected as governor of his home state of Osun.

Celebrities and politics

A number of Nigerian celebrities have ventured into politics one way or the other. While some run for elections and lost, others won, with a few earning political appointments.

In 2015, actor Desmond Elliot represented the All Progressives’ Congress in the Lagos State Assembly and won. Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), one of the most celebrated actors in Nigerian on the other hand, served as Commissioner of Culture and Tourism in Delta State from 2009 till 2015.

Actress, Hilda Dokubo, one of the first Nigerian celebrities to get into the political game, was appointed Special Adviser on Youth Affairs to the former Rivers State governor, Peter Odili in the early 2000’s.

Nkiru Sylvanus, a veteran actress was appointed the Special Adviser on Lagos Affairs to the Imo State Government in 2011. She was later made Special Adviser on Public Relations to the same state Government.

Meanwhile, musician Banky W wants to be in the House of Representatives as he is contesting for the Eti Osa seat on the ticket of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP), a party led by Prince Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, a 27 year-old youth activist and entrepreneur.
