Ghanaian actress Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, will be embarking on a peace walk against vigilantism on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

The Executive Director of Black Star International Film Festival explained to citinewsroom.com in an exclusive interview the reason behind the walk.

“As a Ghanaian, I’m very concerned about what’s going on in the country with the private militia and I’m ver afraid for what could potentially happen. My family has experience war before so I think I’m uniquely qualified to draw the attention of Ghanaians to the potential pitfalls of the direction we are headed,” she said.

Asked why she decided to embark on the peace walk alone, Juliet said the decision was borne out of her resolve to prove to the public that there is also power in solitude.

“This is to reiterate the importance of the action of one. So we don’t have to wait for someone to join us to make our voice heard.

She however stated that people who wish to join her in the worthy cause are welcome.

“If anyone wants to join me, I won’t stop them. I am also not waiting for anyone. I feel that if I raise my voice in an organised way whoever needs to listen would listen,” she further noted.

The walk will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. She will start from the African Regent Hotel to the parliament house in Accra.

Public concern over political vigilantism has been growing over the past few years with some high profile incidents from groups affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party.

Most of these groups are aligned either to the New Patriotic Party or the National Democratic Congress.

Recent conversations on vigilantism come on the back of the violence that took place during the by-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon a few weeks ago.
