Winners of Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year categories of the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which was held on May 18, 2019 were not announced.
The suspension of the announcement of the two categories comes after a brawl between fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy had ensued at the programme.
While Stonebwoy mounted the stage to receive the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award with his entourage, his arch-rival, Shatta Wale also joined him on stage with some of his fans.
In their bid to get Shatta and his fans off the stage, a scuffle ensued and Stonebwoy pulled a gun.
This interrupted the show, making a lot of patrons leave the auditorium.
It is unknown why Shatta Wale joined Stonebwoy on stage but Ghanaweekend‘s interaction with some patrons at the programme suggests that he may have gone there to congratulate Stonebwoy.
There are others who think it was wrong for Shatta Wale to have gone to the stage, considering the friction between him and Shatta’s camp.
Even though the show continued, the organisers did not mention winners of he two categories which have both Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
Artiste of the Year, which is the Ultimate in the VGMA scheme, had Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Joe Mettle, Kuami Eugene and King Promise as nominees. It was likely either of the two rivals would win that category.
In the Most Popular Song of the Year Stonebwoy got nomination with ‘Kpoo Keke’ and Shatta Wale with ‘My Level.’
Other nominees were CCTV – King Promise feat Sarkodie & Mugeez, Do The Dance – Eddie Khae, Bobolebobo – Isaac Kwabena Aning, Akwaaba – Guilty Beatz Ft Mr Eazi, Pappy Kojo & Patapaa, Obiaa Wone Master – Yaa Pono ft. Stonebwoy and Thunder – KiDi.
