Communications Director of Charterhouse, organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, George Quaye, has revealed that some people who got traumatised by scuffle at the 2019 edition, collapsed at the event.
He told Bernard Avle on Citi TV’s ‘Point of View’ on Monday that while working with the production team backstage, some patrons who were shocked by the pandemonium passed out.
“I was on backstage when some of our colleagues and some guests were rushed backstage. They were collapsing, blacking out and all that. So the ambulance and my vehicle had to be used to take them to the hospital,” he said.
When asked why the people were rushed to the hospital, George said it may have been as a result of substance that was sprayed in the air.
The police report had indicated that a gentleman called Nii Amoo was discharging pepper spray in the auditorium.
There was a brawl between fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy at the 20th VGMA which was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at a new Dome at the premises of the Accra International Conference Centre.
While Stonebwoy mounted the stage to receive the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award with his entourage, his arch-rival, Shatta Wale also joined him on stage with some of his fans.
In their bid to get Shatta and his fans off the stage, a scuffle ensued and Stonebwoy pulled a gun.
This interrupted the show, making a lot of patrons leave the auditorium.
