The daughter of Ghanaian football legend Samuel Osei Kuffour, Gloria Osei Kuffour, has urged the Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah not to select Asamoah Gyan for the upcoming African Nations Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019.
According to her, Gyan’s decision to make a u-turn after “a talk with the president is utter rubbish.”
In a post on Facebook, she explained that Gyan’s actions show that his decisions are not based on his love for his country but his selfish interests.
“Clearly, he just sees the b****y team as his property. Meaning he didn’t do this so the team can go in the right direction or for the nations good. Making it seem like the president begged him to return!”

She believes the turn of events have “weakened the coaches authority to drop Asamoah now” but has however urged the coach to be firm and not select Gyan for the tourney.

Honestly I supported Asamoah Gyan because I know the dynamics in the national team and the politics at play when it comes to this captainship.
When CK Akunnuh was dropped for my dad, I remember him rejecting it. At the time, I didn’t understand that decision because c’mon which child wouldn’t want to see their dad a captain of the country’s national team.
However, when I grew a lot older, he explained the disrespect one goes through, the fact that it’s just a glorified title that restricts your opinion on what should be done right in the team. And most likely he was a rebel that didn’t want to be tamed in that manner. (Call him arrogant if you choose but he was true to himself).
I supported Asamoah because let’s be realistic if you worked for a company and you were demoted from a position to regular staff, you are human you won’t take it likely.
However, for him to rescind his decision after a talk with the president is utter rubbish! I thought he was standing up against something for once and being bold. If truly he wanted the president’s opinion on his resignation, he would have run it by his office before the press statement was released to the public. Bear in mind, in any serious country, Asamoah would have been dropped as captain in reference to the rape allegations. Yet we didn’t call for his head!
Clearly, he just sees the bloody team as his property. Meaning he didn’t do this so the team can go in the right direction or for the nations good. Making it seem like the president begged him to return! I honestly thought he was standing up to it because the process in which it was done was wrong but………
I’m disappointed and I retract my congratulatory message! I am also begging Coach Kwesi Appiah to drop him and not select him for the upcoming AFCON tournament. He’s just an over pampered adult!
