The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi has disclosed that the Ministry will be tasking the new Miss Ghana queens as tourism ambassadors.

She told Citi News in an interview on the sidelines of Miss Ghana 2019 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on Saturday that the winners of the contestant would be needed by the ministry to project the country’s cultural heritage.

“For us as the tourism industry, we also intend to use some of these ladies as tourism ambassadors. Because as you participate in the event, you have to demonstrate what your culture is and you sell it to the whole world. So I believe that using them as tourism ambassadors will also support our agenda,” she said.

When asked if they would formally appoint these beauty queens as was done to some 30 celebrities a few years ago, she stated that they would only be used when they are needed for specific projects.

“Not necessarily appointing them formally as ambassadors. Depending on a project that we are doing that we think that some of them would be relevant for, we can involve them in the project,” the Minister explained.

When tasked by the ministry to undertake ambassadorial duties, the beauty queens would be the only celebrities to have been chosen for the cause.

In 2017, over 30 celebrities were appointed by the Ministry to help market Ghana and its heritage with their brands and crafts.

Twenty-six-year-old student of the Maureen Signature Institute, Rebecca Nana Adwoa Kwabi, has won the coveted crown of the 2019 edition of Miss Ghana beauty pageant.

Sarah Odei Amoani, a 22-year-old Law student at the University of Professional Studies who is also a talent development and career guidance coach was adjudged the first runner-up of the contest.

She was followed by 23-year-old Purchase & Supply graduate of the Koforidua Technical University, Deborah Opoku Sarfo who took the third position.
