Highlife legend, Ben Brako on the DayBreak Hitz with Andy Dosy today said he is not sure highlife is ready for the world.
Although he made mention that highlife is the only exciting thing on the horizon, he said Ghana is too small-minded as far as selling highlife music is concerned.
“Highlife is the only exciting thing on the horizon but I’m not sure that highlife is ready for the world as propounded by Ghanaians. I think that we miss the big picture. I think that we’re too small-minded”, he said.
According to him, Nigerians are putting money in their work which is making them go far.
He also said dealing with the right people in the music industry helps sell the craft.
“You need to deal with the right producers, the right managers because certain people when you hear their name, you take the music anywhere they’d be happy to play it just knowing that this guy worked on this track or this manager has clout. So it pays to also work in good studios. Sometimes just the studios alone will make a hit”, he said
“but it doesn’t necessarily have to be so but if you work with one or two world-famous people it will fly”, he added.
He, however, added that the reason people don’t sample his songs is that his songs are difficult.
“I’ve heard some people playing my music as instrumentals, somebody recorded it and brought it to me at a function, I was quite pleased but I think my songs are not that easy and it gives a lot of trouble to so many musicians”, he stated.
