Nollywood actor, Emmanuel France has said in an interview on Hitz FM that Ghanaians have misplaced their priorities as far as the creative industry is concerned.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on the Day Break Hitz, he said Ghana movie industry is not doing too well because people do not want to spend on entertainment.

When asked if he watches Ghanaian movies, he replied, “I started acting film in Ghana in 1969, fifty years now at the Ghana Film Corporation. I took Nollywood to Nigeria, I came back they are still doing Kakraaku. For God’s sake, they are still doing concert”.

“It is nauseating. When we shot Kwaw Ansah’s film, ‘Love Brewed in the African pot’ and he says I’m going to build a big studio, we were laughing at him. Look at it. Look at TV Africa”, he added

“And you come back to this country where Nkrumah established the film in 1960 and we’re still where we are and look at Cameroun, look at Nigeria and so on. I took only four Osofo Dadzie stories to Nigeria, and that is Nollywood today,”, he continued.

He narrated how the Nollywood became what it is today.

“So I don’t think we’re doing too well because we don’t want to spend money on entertainment. Goodluck Jonathan gave N3billion for entertainment in Nigeria and what started with just four Osofo Dadzie stories is today Nollywood with over 2 million filmmakers in Nigeria,” he lamented.

He charged Ghanaians to wake up and stop being Ghanaians.

“So I think we should wake up and stop being Ghanaians. We have misplaced our priorities. This is a big country, a golden country. The only country linked with gold, the entire world it means we are kings. The moment we became Ghanaians we started looking for the political kingdom that gave us nothing so I think we should wake up”, he concluded

The veteran actor is in Ghana to premiere the movie, ‘Blue’ on Saturday.
