Ghanaian comedian Jacinta Ocansey has expressed her dissatisfaction with the lack of opportunities available to comedians in Ghana.

She seemed particularly unhappy with the Tourism Ministry’s lack of effort to get award-winning comedian Steve Harvey to share his expertise and knowledge in the field when he visited Ghana as part of the year of return activities.

When asked by Nana Adwoa Sarkodie of Citi News how comedians in the country have benefited from “The Year of Return”, she said she has so far not seen any benefit from the programme.

“They have not returned anything to us because a whole Steve Harvey was in Ghana and there was no opportunity to even have a sit down with comedians here in Ghana.

“So as far as I am concerned nothing has been returned to me,” quipped.

She believes a lot more effort can be put into making the industry a more vibrant one.

This is not the first time a showbiz person has complained about not gaining from the visit of the Diasporans.

In December 2018, actor Prince David Osei also expressed his displeasure about the fact that some Diasporan celebrities who came into the country were not made available to the local acts so they could socialize and network with them.

So far, foreign celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Glover, AJ Johnson, Steve Harvey, among others have visited Ghana as part of the Year of Return which marks 400 years of the slave trade.
