I’m talking to my lawyers on Bessa’s Interim MUSIGA President appointment – Ras Caleb

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) may face another lawsuit soon if the decision to do appoint Bessa Simons as Acting President is not reversed.

Bessa Simons, who is contesting for the President position was appointed by the National Executive Committee as the Interim President of the union.

This became possible because Bice ‘Obour’ Osei Kuffour had exhausted his tenure and needed to hand over power to Bessa who is the 1st Vice President of the union.

The national elections of the association could not be held because Ras Caleb Appiah who is also contesting for the Presidency had sought court injunction to stop the elections from being held; he stated that the Voter’s Register was fraught with inaccuracies.

Ras Caleb is currently not happy about Bessa’s appointment.

He told Kwame Dadzie on Citi FM’s ‘Celebrity Radar’ that it was unconstitutional for the National Executive Committee to have appointed Bessa Simons whose tenure of office has technically expired too.

“If the President says that his term of office has expired so he is stepping down so that an interim administration comprising his executives take over, it means they have all expired. They were all elected the same time so that if the President is stepping down, all the other executives must also step down,” he said.

When asked if he would consider taking any legal action, he said he was in talks with his lawyer on the matter.

“My lawyer is in the US now, but he is coming this week. I have forwarded a lot of information to him. I will take legal action if I confer with my lawyer,” he said.

Ras added that his supporters have told him that if he does not take the matter to court, they would do that on his behalf.
