Ghanaian rapper Pono Biom has disclosed in a phone interview that he only smokes when he is outside Ghana.
He said this in response to Kwaw Kese’s comment “Cannabis is Ghana’s next big cash Crop.”
Pono Biom who is known for doing songs about weed was asked on Hitz FM if he agrees with Kwaw Kese’s comment.
The ‘High Grade’ singer who was hesitant at first because of fear of being misquoted said, “For this unless you ask the Ministry of Agriculture and the others. I am not a politician. I don’t know anything about it”
When asked if he smokes, he asked, “Like how?” After getting clarification, he said, “Oh yes, yes when I am in Holland.”
He then asked if the question is about growing the crop, marijuana and suggested it be regulated and not just push for legalisation.
“Plenty of countries have done it and they’re rich but you have to know that there is something called control. You can’t just legalize without control. If you continuously promote something without control, it will turn out to be a danger. For example, somebody doesn’t know what is tramadol so if you’re saying ‘tramadol tramadol’ on your radio. Stop tramadol and you’re not doing anything to stop it’ll rather blow the alarm for the people who don’t know,” he said.
“So if you wanna do such things because the common farmers living in Volta are still hungry. How are they going to get to the harbour to ship? There should be a standard set aside to control. You don’t just get up and legalize weed,” he added
He said, legalising without regulation will only end up making the rich men richer.
“Other than that the country is not going to be rich but some people are going to be rich because the common farmer who doesn’t have money, the big man will come and buy it from him and export it and the big man is gonna be rich and the farmer is going to be broke,” he added.
He was again asked if he has taken weed tea this morning and he replied, “Oh naa I don’t smoke in Ghana. I smoke in Holland.”
