The backlash that came after comedian OB Ampnsah’s joke about DJ Switch a few years ago brought him some blessings after all.
According to OB, despite the trolls and criticisms, he also got new followers who later became his fans.
“There was a positive side to it. I got a lot of followers. People now wanted to know who this guy was. Was he for real? Was it just a joke gone bad or he’s a malicious comedian?”
“They realized I was a very sweet person so those who came to follow me to see who I was, stayed and became my fans.”
He, however, explained in the interview with Hajia Lamy Gates of Ghana Weekend TV that it was only a joke that was blown out of proportion.
For those who are new to the story – OB posted on his timeline that judging from the demeanour of the young female DJ, she would be a lesbian if her caretakers did not get her a boyfriend. She was 10 years old at that time.
He said although it did not go well with the audience, he was just aiming at cracking a joke for his followers on Facebook.
“DJ Switch’s issue situation was me making a bad joke about the young girl and I shouldn’t have and as a comedian, there is stuff you’d do that the people wouldn’t be happy with,” he noted.
“And in fact, a lot of people were not happy, I realized it and then apologized for it. It wasn’t a good thing,” OB added.
He, therefore, added that he has learnt a lot of lessons from the incident and that it has made him more careful with what subjects he tackles in his comedy.
