Actor, David Dontoh has revealed that his father did not speak to him for two years when he saw him in an advert on television.
Coming from a family which did not support his uncle’s acting career which pushed him into drinking and finally death, David Dontoh also went into acting instead of medical school that his father wanted for him.
After writing exams and not qualifying to the medical school, he was working with his dad and aunty to keep himself busy until he met the USAID director at the time asked him to do an illustration in a book and he did (70 images which he was impressed by).
Seeing his artistic nature, he spoke to him to do something related to arts and then on the Monday, he saw an advert in graphic concerning acting training, he decided to give it a try and boom, that was it.
He narrated this happening while speaking to AJ Sarpong on the Hall Of Fame on Citi TV.
She asked him how his family reacted when he decided to go into acting after they did not give his uncle the needed support and he said: “My own father did not speak to me for two years when he saw me in an advert on television and was wondering are you acting?’ I said yes and he couldn’t believe that I wanted to act because I did science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics at Sixth Form to go and do medicine.”
“But unfortunately those were times when it was so difficult entering medical school. I couldn’t get all the grades to go to medical school so I worked with my father, I worked with my aunty, doing all kinds of odd jobs” he added.
