Ghanaian actress, Beverly Afaglo has bitterly complained about how hotels are ‘unfairly’ extorting foreigners who are in Ghana this festive season.
In a 5 minute video that has surfaced on the internet, the actress is seen ranting about how Golden Tulip charged them ( she and her friends) GHS 290 for a buffet she says is supposed to be either GHS120 or GHS 130.
“A couple of days ago my friends and I went to Golden Tulip to have diner and we decided to have buffet so we have variety but they didn’t even have much that day but we really wanted dessert so we opted for that. So, after eating they brought the bill and I was confused so I asked them, excuse me, how much is buffet per a person? Then he tell me it’s GHS 290. He said GHS 290. I’m like what? Two hundred and what? Buffet that was GHS120 or GHS130 has gone up so high to GHS 290. More than a 100 percent.
“C’mon guys. C’mon so because we have visitors in the country you want to milk them? Because we have foreigners in the country you want to extort from them? That is not fair. It is so so not fair. Actually o was very very upset. I wanted to see the manager. I wanted to see who’s in charge because this is unfair. You should pace the price there so that we see that you’ve been able to hike it so high that we have to pay from GHS 130 to GHS 290 per person. To eat what? What did we even eat?” She narrated .
She complained this act will not make foreigners love the country enough to return.
“You want these people to come spend. You want these people to keep coming. You want these people to love our country. This is not how we do it. It’s not done anywhere.
“Who will have a buffer i America for 60 dollars ? In England, 50 pounds for buffet? And that variety is like from the North to the South for crying out loud. But in Ghana you give us a buffet of a round table and you want us to pay GHS 290? That is unfair. That is unfair, Golden Tulip; it’s unfair .
“ I wouldn’t be surprised that the other so called 4 star and 5 star hotels are doing same but it’s wrong. You don’t extort from people just because they tell me it’s Christmas price, c’mon. Just because people are in the country, you have foreigners in the country you want to milk them? How do they come back again? “ she lamented .
She also used the opportunity to advise bar and club owners to scan barcode on bottles of drink and that she has had bad experiences from drinking fake drinks.
“If you know how to scan the barcode please do so because I’ve had issues where you buy a bottle of liquor and you realize that when you go home you’re either having some headaches or you’re having a flu or something. Most of them are fake so please scan them.
“ I mean it’s not fair. How can you go and buy some Togo made liquor for like GHS 60 or GHS 90 and come and sell it GHS 600/800 in the club just because you have a club and you want to milk people” she noted.
She concluded that Ghana is not supposed to be expensive and that the Year of Return should be worth it and that extorting foreigners will only make them leave before their return date.
