Highlife musician, Abrantee Amakye Dede has explained the reason why he rarely features or collaborates with artistes on his songs.
For him, his image and respect accorded him is way expensive as compared to featuring anyone for hits.
“I don’t want to associate my brand with just any artiste, especially with artistes who don’t respect . You collaborate with an artiste and the next day , they are dragging your name in the mud. I am really choosy whenever it comes to who I work with.
“Nonetheless, I am working with Sarkodie and Kuami Eugene is an artiste I will gladly work with. My doors are opened to any artiste who wants a collaboration but i need to be convinced about you before I work with you” he told Graphic Showbiz in a recent interview.
He is however concerned about how young artistes are always in a rush to get songs released that they produce half cooked songs .
“I spent eight years in releasing ‘Iron Boy’ and when the song finally came out, everyone jammed to it and to date , they have been jamming to it. I spend a lot of money on my productions just that is not same today.
Again, my songs are timeless because my lyrics are deep which appeals to both the young and the old,” he stated.
The ‘To Be A Man’ singer who has been doing music for the past 45 years is not known for doing videos to accompany his songs.
To this, he said “ A lot of people ask me the same questions about my music videos but we are doing a lot of videos this year and most of them will be mostly my old songs. I know how music videos go to help an artiste’s brand and I am working towards that”
His admiration for Kuami Eugene is one thing he has made public for the past years.
At last year’s VGMA, he crowned Eugene as the next Highlife King of Ghana.
His management came out to say he was forced to do that on stage but in his interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, he was asked what he thinks of the current highlife musicians and he said the likes of Kuami Eugene were doing great.
