Actor and tailor, Elikem Kumordzie has apologized for asking actors to ‘go and find a day job’.
This apology he said is specifically directed at Kofi Adjorlolo.
The veteran actor, went viral in an interview where Kofi complained about producers not paying actors and that seven of them owe him.
“Some of the producers in Ghana here, they should respect themselves. An old man like me, they’ll call me to come and work and then they can’t pay me. About seven producers in this country they owe me monies…why? And then I’m sitting at home and I’m hungry.
“As for the young actors they don’t even pay them because of the passion they have for acting, they come and do the work, they don’t pay them,” Kofi Adjorlolo fumes.
After the video hit the internet, some other actors have come out to confirm actors are not paid.
However, Elikem took to Instagram to tell actors to get a day job and stop complaining.
“There’s all this plenty talk on the internet about how producers in Ghana don’t pay actors. For me, it’s actually a good thing for me that producers were not paying me. I agree a hundred per cent that producers in Ghana don’t pay. Some of them do, some of them don’t, some of them will pay you shi* wage, literally”.
“…you can’t wanna do entertainment and not have a day job, especially in the beginning” he noted.
Some actors were under Elikem’s post to disagree with him and punch holes in his argument.
Elikem then posted another video to apologize to all actors especially Kofi Adjorlolo.
“I sincerely apologize if it came across as if I was debunking his statement or going against what he said. I agree a hundred per cent with Kofi Adjorlolo with the terms that producers don’t pay.
They don’t pay well, they don’t pay on time and they don’t respect the actors and their rights. Some do but the majority don’t.
He explained that finding a day job as he said is not work in the bank or in the office and that it could be waiting on tables in the restaurant or managing social media accounts, just anything to keep one busy while they go for auditions, adding that “so that you don’t entirely depend on the movie role or the next best gig to feed you”.
