Some Ghanaian celebrities have expressed their disagreement with the Food and Drugs Authority’s (FDA) ban on celebrity alcohol advertisements.
This ban was instituted in 2015 but has come up a lot since the beginning of this year especially after Wendy Shay lost a huge deal and took swipes at the board on social media.
In a recent interview with MzGee on 3FM’s Showbuzz which mzgeegh.com reported, the FDA has responded to the celebrities’ concerns on the ban.
According to the website, a Principal officer at FDA, Mr Kofi Essel who was interviewed stated that alcoholic endorsement deals are is not the source of income to the celebrities.
” Celebrities don’t make their cash from the advertisement of alcoholic beverages. They make their cash from the fundamental work that they do which is entertainment. In Russia, there is a total ban on advertisement of alcoholic beverages. So let’s assume Ghana also takes that stance where will they make their cash?” he quizzed.
