The origination of Highlife genre has been an issue of concern over the years.
While some believe it is originally from Ghana, others like Black Prophet say otherwise.
The Reggae musician claims the only authentic Ghanaian music is the traditional music known to the forefathers which do not include Highlife.
His comment is as a result of suggestions that Highlife should be promoted more than other musical genres in Ghana.
”Highlife came about when Ghanaians began saying ‘Y3nko nko b) highlife’. It was the poor blacks going to play songs for the rich whites living the “high life”. Highlife is not our music. Our music is kpanlogo, agbadza, fume fume, among others.” he told Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day.
”If we want to talk about our authentic music, then we are talking about the music that our forefathers used to play. And that is not highlife,” he added.
Black Prophet born Kenneth Wilberforce Zonto Bossman has done collaborations with artists including Rita Marley, Pliers, Lucky Dube, Alpha Blondy, Buju Banton among others.
His album was also recently considered for the Grammy Awards.
