Deborah Vanessa and Medikal took fans by surprise when they shared the same stage and serenaded fans at Medikal’s ‘Welcome to Sowutuom’ concert on November 30, 2019.
Sister Derby joined Medikal on stage to perform “Too Risky” which they did together before the relationship went sour.
The performance which was a total surprise trended for days.
Deborah explained she was invited to perform and she accepted because she saw it as a business.
“I was invited and the thing about me is once again I ask one or two people and they were like you need to be angry… I’m not even angry and I do have a song with that person that was a hit song and that’s my work so if the person was called at BET and he calls me to come and sing my verse, will I say I won’t go?” she told Larley on ‘Let’s Do Drinks’.
However, the performance which looked beautiful from afar was not a full package of fun to Derby.
She noted that Medikal’s act of surprise on stage robbed her of fully enjoying what would have been a beautiful memory.
Speaking to Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM’s Showbiz Agenda earlier today, she disclosed she only enjoyed the performance to about seventy per cent.
“I wasn’t comfortable the 30 per cent because the person who invited me was acting on stage like he had no idea I was going to come and that was so disappointing for me because we have this dance move that we do on ‘Too Risky’ that we used to do together and I was disappointed because I don’t see anything wrong with you asking a fellow artiste who you have a song with to come and perform at your show. I don’t think if he had said he invited me, I don’t think people would have hated him or it wouldn’t have reduced his fan base. I’m very disappointed in whoever advised him to pretend that he didn’t invite me,” she stated.
Further, explain her point, she said: “We hadn’t planned a dance but whenever we used to perform Too Risky together we always would do this dance. It’s not only about the dance. The mannerism, everything, the behaviour of the person on stage wasn’t in sync. There was no synergy and I felt awkward. I was like you know what I’m on stage this is my craft, this is my verse I’m going to pretend I’m not seeing that, I’m going to give my best which I did.
“…like seventy to eighty per cent I had fun. I went on stage and it still hadn’t clicked to the fans that it was me till I started singing my verse. It took them like 3 seconds and then all I heard was an uproar. I t was like a stadium noise, the scream so that was nice cos at the end of the day, whatever is going on between you and someone shouldn’t affect anything.”
She added that she later confronted Medikal about it and he said he did not realize that she wanted to do the special dance.
