I Married Abrokwa out of pity, we never had a relationship – Afia Schwarzenegger

Afia Schwarzenegger seems to have regrets about getting married to her ex-husband, Lawrence Abrokwa without going through the dating process.

She disclosed she married him out of pity and not love but the man became a control freak and abused also her.

Speaking about her marriage to Joselyn Dumas on the ‘Keeping It Real’ show, she disclosed she did not get to date her ex-husband for even two months to get to know him enough before agreeing to marry him.

“I really got bored in my marriage, very quick. I blame myself. I blame myself because I should have dated my ex-husband for even 2 months,” she said.

She met her ex-husband while in South Africa after a series of surgeries for kidney stones and fibroadenoma and had to live with one of her brothers.

According to her, Abrokwa was helping her brother clean the house and drive him to work yet he qualified as a better caregiver besides her first nurse and the subsequent one.

She recounted that the surgeries got her bedridden for months and needed someone to even help her to ease herself or drink water so meeting Abrokwa was convenient and having him come over to her brother’s to take care of her each day was a challenge and she decided to move in with him in his flat.

“We finally moved in on the 2nd of August. I met him on the 2nd of August as a caregiver, on the 18th of August he wanted to marry me…So, I met him at the end of July but as someone who came in for an interview”, she noted.

Touching on the marriage she said her mother in some way blackmailed her into marrying her ex-husband –  “he pushed it to my mother how much he wanted to marry me and obviously my mother is a mother who wanted desperately for me to settle…she talked me into believing her (that her caregiver is a man she needed) and I’ll say it today, tomorrow, the next day, I married my ex-husband thinking I am marrying somebody who’ll be my strength…We never had a relationship,” she reiterated.

“…three days before we got married, I took my baby sister and my artiste manager to my junction and I sat them down and I told them I really don’t know what’s going on with me. I’m getting married to somebody I don’t love. I’m marrying somebody I sympathise with. It wasn’t out of love. It was out of pity.”

However, she said she was happy to be married and that is why she constantly flaunted him on the ‘gram’.

Watch the interview which has been uploaded in parts:

Afia got married to Abrokwa in 2016 but the marriage ended after she was caught in bed by her husband who threatened to pour acid on her while filming her when she was begging for mercy.

The video was leaked to social media; but Abrokwa denied leaking it.

After dragging the case in court for about a year, she was finally granted a divorce at the end of January this year.
