Venerated entertainment critic and writer, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has revealed that he was once asked to be on the Board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards but he declined.
According to Arnold who is currently a Board Member of the 3Music Awards, two years ago, former PRO of Charterhouse George Quaye called him to serve on the Board but he felt at that time he is not ready.
He made this revelation in an interview with Abrantepa on Ghana Web TV’s ‘Bloggers Forum’.
“Two years ago, George called me that the organisers had included me on the Board. Well, I felt at the time I wasn’t ready because I figured that over the years, there were a couple of people who were good critics of the award, starting from Nii Ayi Tagoe, Francis Doku and the like. These guys were taken to the board so that really curtailed their ability to pass commentary on the award,” he said.
Arnold has been one of the very huge critics of the scheme.
His analysis of the scheme has in part contributed a great deal to how far they have come.
Recently, he together with other vociferous media people on the Board of the 3Music Awards was chastised for accepting to be on the Board.
Proponents of this believed that Arnold and his ilk would be muzzled from criticising the scheme, and this will create a situation where there won’t be many hard critics to put the award scheme on its toes.
However, Arnold believes there comes a time when critics need to get into the fray and cause a change than always to sit back to criticise.
In the meantime, when the time is ripe, he will serve on the VGMA Board irrespective of the fact that he’s on the 3 Music Awards board.
He said if he gets to that bridge and he’s approached again, he’ll give it a shot.
