Leave me out of Mr Drew’s song ‘theft’ case; I only showed love – Stonebwoy

Afro-dancehall act, Stonebwoy has denied having prior knowledge that Mr Drew’s ‘Eat’ was done without copyright clearance.

He said he was only showing love to Kaywa’s “boy”.

Mr Drew has been the talk on social media for days after his song, ‘Eat’ which featured Stonebwoy got deleted from YouTube on the grounds of copyright infringement.

From indications, Mr Drew sampled American actor and singer, Rotimi’s Love Riddim without his permission.

According to the ‘Le Gba Gbe’ singer, he is disturbed that his name is involved in a controversy as this since he believes Kaywa’s label is not a “baby” and that things would be done right.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on Hitz FM Monday, June 1, Stonebwoy notes that he reached out to Mr Drew after he “chanced upon” the song on Instagram and asked him in his DM (direct message) to send it to him for his verse.

“I’m beginning to feel disturbed why my name should even be roping in some things when all I did was to show super love,” he stated.

As to whether he knew the song did not belong to Mr Drew, he said in pidgin, “I finished recording this beautiful verse in my house then my brother comes and tells me it seems the song belonged to someone.”

Stonebwoy added that after he recorded his verse and his brother disclosed it was not an original song, Mr Drew later told him it was only a cover and since he knows there’s a thing as cover, he went on with it.

“…then he said it’s a cover. I’m like if it’s a cover just do what you have to do,”

“I got to find out later,” he reiterated.

He also said the team should deal with their issue and leave him out of it.

However, Mr Drew insisted that Stonebwoy knew from the start that “Eat” is sampled from Rotimi’s ‘Love Riddim’.

Mr Drew promising he has chat evidence to back his claim pointed that when he informed Stonebwoy about the song not being his, “he was like oh yeah he knows but you get a big song out of a big song.”

”Stonebwoy did come to me. He reached out to me. He texted me on Instagram and he was like I think this is a banger so let’s do it. And I spoke to my manager.

“I was like did somebody hack Stonebwoy’s account. It’s very strange because I didn’t tag Stonebwoy in it (the post about the song). It was just Rotimi so I went back to check the post and realized that Stonebwoy had commented under the post- ‘yo this is a big tune, let’s fix it,” Mr Drew explained.
