Artiste manager, Kwesi Ernest has stated that he would have been one of the richest in the industry if he managed talents based on contracts and due process.
From his experience of managing talents for almost twenty years, Ernest noted that the industry operates on informal terms that things are just taken for granted.
He said that as a result, the majority of the artistes are teaching them a lesson now especially after they have invested years of sacrifice towards their growth.
“I’ve been a victim of not signing contracts because if I was have followed contract and due process I should be one of the richest guys now,” he told Adwoa Loud on GH One’s Pundits.
“The system that we are practising here is so much of informal to the extent that majority of these artistes are wising us up. They’re making us very strong now,” adding that he has lots of evidence from meeting artistes who come to him crying to invest in them and that if he decides to let out the conversations it will take time.
He pointed out that seeing artistes in a sad situation would not allow him to sign a contract and so he goes ahead to invest his time and resources only for the artiste to become successful and become ‘ungrateful’.
He further mentioned that “so far I have managed over 23 artistes in Ghana. All of them till today I can look at their face, I can mention their names one by one, all of them have been successful. In fact, I can even say all of them have won either local and international awards.”
Kwesi Ernest has managed talents including Becca, Kofi Sarpong, Joyce Blessing, Francis Agyei, Bernice Offei, King David, Praye, among others.
