Ghanaian comedienne Afia Schwarzenegger has said she has not allowed her children to return to school to write their exams amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Final year students in Junior High School, Senior High and the second year students on the gold track system have gone back to school since June for revision and examination.
But Afia noted that her children are still home because she is scared of exposing them to the virus adding that no measures have been put in place to keep the kids safe yet they were asked to return to school.
Speaking to Frema and Ato Kwamina on Citi TV’s Upside Down show on July 12, she stated pointed out that Ghanaians are not taking the situation seriously and caution is thrown to the wind although the virus continues to wreak havoc.
“I’m scared. As at now, my kids have not been to school because as a parent, we just didn’t care about the health of our children. There was no measure put in place. If we really wanted the children to go back to school, we should have done testing for every student,” she bemoaned.
According to her, she was following updates on situations in China prior to Ghana recording first case and she felt the country is in trouble should cases be recorded adding that “and every day I think God has some special mercy on us because social distancing, we’re not observing it. We’re lying to ourselves.”
“There was no reason for the EC to carry on with the registration exercise, it is not safe. Students and teachers are equally not safe,” she stated.
She also said “covid-19 is real yet we’re joking with it.”
