Actor Van Vicker does not understand the president’s decision not to open cinemas even after the ban on most social activities have been lifted.
In the president’s recent address to the nation on Sunday night, he extended the service hours from one to two and extended the capacity of congregants at a sitting.
Commercial vehicles have also been given the go-ahead to pick the full capacity of persons while tourist sites and open-air drinking spots have been asked to resume.
But the ban on Cinemas, Night Clubs and beaches have been extended indefinitely.
In an interview with MzGee, Van Vicker is not clear on why the decision to lift restrictions has not been extended to the cinemas as well.
“I’m not too clear on it if the churches can do two hours, and sit full capacity, and trotros, the buses can sit full capacity, then I’m just lost in my mind why can’t the cinemas operate. Perhaps there is an explanation that I’m oblivious of but I think there’s something that we need to be told. We are on the same level as the churches or the buses and there’s an argument that maybe because of the air conditioners in the room, the disease might circulate faster but churches too have air conditioners as well as the buses,” mzgee.com quoted him to have said.
He noted that should cinemas be open in these times, all protocols will be duly observed.
“We will all observe the protocol. If you have to do a premiere, the protocols should and would be observed. Even with the churches, they would still wear their masks, wash their hands, but we can observe the same.”
