Dancegod Lloyd has disclosed that although dance has always been his passion, he decided to make it a profession to prove doubters wrong.
According to him, the passion for dance started way back Senior High School; Presbyterian Boy’s Secondary School (Presec).
Speaking to Frema Adunyame and Ato Kwamina on Citi TV’s Upside Down show, he noted that his colleagues advised him to concentrate on his books instead of ‘wasting’ time on dancing.
“Everyone was paying attention to their books…So, my friends were telling me: Lloyd, this dance that you’re doing, you cannot further it after school so pay attention to your books… So I was like this is my purpose. I feel super confident when I’m dancing and I’m able to express myself more so let me prove people wrong. Like I can follow my passion” he said
“After high school, I had a bit of a setback. I went to play soccer (professionally for the Redbull in Sogakope) for like three or four years. One day I just said to myself that: Lloyd, this is not you. Dance is your calling. So, I came back into the scene,” he added.
He noted that it was just just “for the love of it” until they met their manager who introduced them to the business aspect of the skill and they stopped dancing for free, had to position themselves for people to come after them.
He took the advice seriously and not only has the academy been doing great for the past three years, but the group was also got featured on the song ‘Already’ one of music videos that made it Beyoncé’s ‘Black Is King’.
