While all avenues including music, sculpture, disc jockeying, dancing, among others in the Ghanian creative industry has been penetrated by females, beat production remains the area they shy away from.
It is not clear what could be hindering them but it does not seem to be one of the crafts that enthuse them.
Speaking at the launch of Beat Makers’ Battle, Zapp Mallet advised that ladies venture beat making
“One thing I’m trying to encourage is that the ladies must also try as much as possible to get into that aspect. When you go to America people like Missy Elliot, there are a few of them who do their own thing (beat). So, I’ll also encourage so that we have a gender balance,” he said.
He believes the ladies will add a soft touch to change beat production from the usually hard sounds to likeable taste.
“Maybe when the ladies come in their beats will be softer and more romantic than the guys’ because the guys sometimes it’s so hard,” he stated.
The Beatmakers challenge is open to Ghanaian music beat producers. The finale is pegged at November 6, 2020, from which the emerging winner would have to represent Ghana in Canada.
