The ‘Open Gate’ singer beat competition from Sarkodie, Kofi Kinaata, Diana Hamilton and Medikal to win the enviable title in the twenty first edition of the VGMA.
The last artiste to hold the title is the late Ebony Reigns in 2018.
In 2019, no artiste was awarded the artist of the year title due to the fracas between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
The two ended up in a fight on stage, pushing Stonebwoy to draw his gun, bringing the event to abrupt end without an artist of the year.
They have been banned from the award scheme even after apologizing and showing remorse.
It somehow came as a surprise when Eugene won the title last night but as Freda indicated, he has been working towards it for quite a long time now.
