Some backing vocalists in Ghana are not happy about how they have been consigned to the back by the music industry.
They believe that the music industry has not been fair to them when it comes to awards, recognition and royalties.
Some of these backing vocalists, led by Nana Ama, who spoke to Quophi Okyeame on Angel FM said that sometimes they don’t just sing chorus and backing vocals for the mainstream musicians. They actually help to create melodies, restructure choruses and even do ad libs for these musicians.
They said due to this, they have formed a group to drum home their message.
Listen to how they laid down their concerns:
Responding to their message on Facebook, She Love, another popular backing vocalist, wrote:
“You’ve worked so hard, we’ve done so much, we change the face of the songs, we put sweet melody behind, we compose some of the songs, we arrange some of the songs and we perform after singing the songs, After all this we are still not recognized, family think about it and help us with this agenda to be implemented thank you very much, God bless you big sisters for taking the stand for all of us, I can’t thank you blessed ladies enough, I’m humbled.”
