The organiser of the Radio and Television Personality Awards (RTP), Prince Emmanuel Mackay, is not happy with the organiser of a similar award scheme held in the Western Region.
In a voice note chanced on by ghanaweekend.com, Prince is heard asking the organiser of the Western Radio and Television Personality Awards (WRTP), Isaac Mensah to drop the name or he meets them in court.
According to Prince, they have used the name of his award scheme for theirs; a brand he has built across other African countries.
“You are using our name to do business illegally. A name that has been registered as an international trademark,” he said.
When Isaac explained to him that theirs had the prefix ‘Western’, he said it does not matter since it has his trademark.
In an interview with ghanaweekend.com, Isaac Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of ExOne Entertainment said Prince Mackay’s lawyer called him earlier but when Prince followed up his call, he was shouting at him.
“He started raising his voice on me. I looked him he was giving me a warning that if I don’t comply with his directive he will sue me,” he said.
Asked if he envisaged such controversies while choosing the name, Isaac said no one owns rights to the English words he used for the name of his award scheme.
“Nothing will make me change the name,” he further noted.
The second edition of the Western Radio and Television Personality Awards (WRTP) which was held a few days ago, presented a car to the overall winner and also gave out television sets to other winners.
