In the wake of the attention that drill music is receiving in Ghana, Ghanaian music group Dead Peepol has asserted they made the music form popular in Ghana.
The ‘Otanhunu’ hitmakers in an exclusive interview with NY DJ on BTM Afrika, the group said they chose drill music because they wanted to create a sound that was not known to Ghanaians.
“…so Otanhunu was the first drill music to hit in Ghana and we call ourselves the pioneers of Twi drill in Ghana,” they said.
Drill music which is fast becoming a music trend in Ghana gained more attention during the emergence of the Kumerica craze.
Also known as Asakaa by Kumasi rappers, it is identified with artistes such as Kwaku Flick, Kofi Jamar, Yaw TOG, Ypee, among others.
