Being in its fourth year, the 3Music Awards has made some changes to their categories after a retreat in Akosombo a few weeks ago.
The Board after deliberations has:
(1). Renamed the Music Man of the Year category to Artiste (MVP) of the Year – just as it is in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Previously, this overarching award was split between the men and the women.
(2). Added ‘Emerging Woman of the Year’ to the list of categories consistent with awards intentional policy to be all-embracing and also enable inclusion and representation for female artists.
(3). ‘Woman of the Year’ and ‘Emerging Woman of the Year’ will now become the topmost awards of the Women’s Brunch, which comes off on 7th March in commemoration of International Women’s Day.
(4). Created a category to satisfy the EP culture. The ‘EP of the Year’ category also takes care of the most outstanding oft-overlooked music format; the middle child between the single and long-playing album (LP). The ‘Alternative Artiste of the Year’ category will comprise music produced by performers who are outside the musical mainstream, which is typically regarded as more eclectic, original, or challenging than most popular music.
It goes to the most outstanding alternative artiste but genre-defying music under the year in review which features a fusion of different musical genres away from popular and mainstream Ghanaian music genres.
(5). Redefined the ‘Rapper of the Year’ category to reward consistent rap-based activities of talents within the year under review away from the initial rap performance on a song.
(6). Added the word “movement” to the definition of the Fan Army category. It now reads:
“The most outstanding/dominant artiste(s) fan group or movement on the basis of their online & offline activities that contributes to talent(s) top of mind, driving attention to their favourite talents works, strong social relevance and impact. This is voted for exclusively by the fans.”
