The conversations about Ghanaians winning Grammy awards keep coming up after Burna Boy and other Nigerian artistes won awards at this year’s Grammy Awards.
While most people are worried that no Ghanaian has won a Grammy before, Ghanaian artiste Sherifa Gunu has predicted that rapper Sarkodie will soon get there.
“Sarkodie will receive Grammy award soon because recently I watched his short videos and his performance was exceptional,” Sherifa Gunu said on UTV’s ‘United Showbiz’.
Sherifa Gunu however advised that Ghanaian musicians (rappers inclusive) employ the use of indigenous Ghanaian musical instruments and rhythms.
“We have musicians here but something is missing along the line. We still need our rhythms. We need them. You know many of us do not invite guitarists [into] the studio anymore: we don’t use the live instruments anymore,” Sherifa Gunu said.
She even said that she is used to performing to live instruments so much that without them, she finds it difficult to deliver.
“If you call me for a show and the programme is a live band and the band did not rehearse my songs very well, I cannot perform because if you listen to my songs, the strings within the rhythm. I will need them because the rhythm calls me to sing,” she added.
