Gospel Musician and Preacher, Sonnie Badu has responded to top Ghanaian Gospel musicians who blasted him last year for congratulating Kuami Eugene for winning the Artiste of the Year at the VGMAs.
Radio presenter and artiste manager OB Nartey took a swipe at Sonnie Badu after he congratulated Kuami Eugene in a Facebook post.
OB Nartey indicated the Baba singer had become noted for “unnecessary fame attachments”. He went on to indicate that he had a problem with Sonnie Badu calling Kuami Eugene his “son” when there were other people in gospel ministry who the Wonder God crooner had to help lift up.
In his defense, Dr. Sonnie Badu told TV3’s MzGee that he did not know any of the people who bashed and none of them had ever reached out to him so their account of him was baseless.
“I have never met them before. I don’t know them. My arms are very well opened. When you needed to contact us it wasn’t difficult. There is no one that has reached out to me that I have never responded to or helped. I have people I have helped. Ask Efe Grace, I helped her with her first song. Last year during the Covid I unveiled 26 young artists. So if they reach out to me, I will help them. If they keep saying I don’t help people or mid them, then it means they don’t know me. Once you reach out to me, I will respond. ”
He added that he has a very personal relationship with Kwame Eugene and so his message was to someone he knew personally.
“I have a very good relationship with Kwame Eugene. In fact, when he and Kidi started, I was one of the people his label reached out to mentor them. So before he does anything we chat, he’s a son to me which was why he thanked me when he received his award.”
