Ghanaian singer-songwriter and record producer Richard Mensah, better known by his stage name Richie has blamed the media for the allegations of music theft against Kuami Eugene.
This comes after a Ghana-based Nigerian artiste, Oduma Essan, reportedly sued Kuami Eugene for allegedly plagiarizing his song.
According to reports, the singer is claiming part ownership of Kuami Eugene’s ‘Show Body’ hit song featuring Falz featured on the Son of Africa Album released on October 9.
Richie in an interview with Joy News stated that if the media stopped giving attention to such claims, they will stop coming up.
“When you don’t protect your child then you allow people to enter your house and attack them. Kwame Eugene keeps getting attacked regularly because they have come to see that when you attack Kwame Eugene, you make the news because the media keeps publishing these kinds of stories. Kwame Eugene brand has talkability so people take advantage of that. But trust me, if the media house stops paying attention to the ‘rubbish stories’, they will stop bringing them.”
He added that the musician has no case against Kwame Eugene because the songs are completely different. He also accused Oduma Essan of seeking attention using the media.
“Anybody who listens to the two songs will realize that there are no similarities whatsoever. The only thing that is similar is the title of the song, Show Body. However, they released their song in August, In July Kwame Eugene Announced his Album tracklist, and Show body was one of the songs on the tracklist. The song was recorded in May, Falz sent his verse on June 6 and I have the evidence to support this then in July we published the tracklist but because the video came out in October, they were thinking that theirs was announced before Eugene’s so if they come with this story they can get some attention.”
” All it takes is for the media to do a check or reach out to find more information about the case. And even if they have a case against us they already took the matter to court so what has it got to do with media. This just shows that they are looking for attention,” he added
