Social media trending challenges are not new in our time.
During peak COVID-19 times, artistes, content creators, and influencers have resorted to these challenges to push a particular agenda or type of content. Shatta Wale is the latest to have ignited a trending challenge inadvertently with #nojeanschallenge.
The genesis of this challenge comes after a post the Ayoo hitmaker made where he was captured wearing a white tee and complemented with blue jeans below.
Many social media users for some reason identified the jeans to be ‘fake’ and attacked Shatta Wale for not having the moral right tagging the shoes of his nemesis- Arnold Asamoah Baidoo— cheap and valuing it at two Ghana Cedis fifty pesewas, when they clashed on a heated episode of an entertainment talk show, some weeks ago.
However, if there is anyone who knows how to milk attention and convert controversy into a suitable agenda, it is Shatta Wale. The ‘Taking Over’ hitmaker responded to these comments and allegations with another post where he was captured in a photo with a big white tee without anything beneath.
This has led to an interesting challenge trending across all social media channels where fans, followers and members of the Shatta Movement have followed the example of their president and leader.
Normally trending challenges will lead to a particular social agenda but I am not too sure what this challenge is seeking to achieve.
Are we about to witness people on the streets with big tees without pants as the latest fashion statement? Is there an SM merch(white tee with Shatta Wale’s face) in an offing ahead of the #GOGALBUM release?
Would Shatta Wale use this as an opportunity to give us a banger as he hasn’t done that really in the last 10 months or so?
Or perhaps, as the lyrics of his hit song suggests- “my name is Shatta Wale” and this might just be what he meant with ‘FREEDOM?’
