One of Ghana’s greatest rappers, Michael Owusu Addo, professionally known as Sarkodie has revealed that Beyonce’s ‘Black is King’ visual album was a great inspiration for his ‘Blacklove’ album.
Discussing this with Adesope on Afrobeats’ youtube channel, he said he only records when he has the inspiration to do so.
According to Sarkodie, the ‘Black is King’ album was released while he was recording ‘Black Love’.
“I was already recording but as soon as Beyonce dropped ‘Black Is King’ [Lion King: The Gift], I felt that was the right time”, he said.
‘Black is King’ is a 2020 American musical film and visual album directed, written, and produced by American
singer Beyonce which featured Shatta Wale in one of its songs, ‘Already’.
Black love was released in December 2019 and has a total of 15 songs on the album including Anadwo, Lucky, and Saara featuring King Promise, Rude Boy and Efya respectively.
Sarkodie is currently promoting his new album, ‘No Pressure’ which is to be released on July 9, 2021.
