Ghanaian Highlife legend, Nana Kwame Ampadu who passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, is one of the greatest musicians Ghana has ever produced.
He is revered for his coruscating songwriting prowess and his unbridled story-telling ability.
Here are some 10 facts you may know about Nana Ampadu:
(1). Nana Ampadu was born on 31 March 1945 to Samuel Kofie and Madam Mary Angamah in Adiemmra which happens to be in Obo Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
(2) Nana Ampadu was named Kwame Ampadu by his father. He added ‘Patrick’ to his name after being baptized.
(3). He formed the “African Brothers Band” in 1963 along with Eddie Donkor and a few others.
(4). Nana Ampadu rose to fame after he released his single Ebi Te Yie in 1967 which led to him becoming a household name.
(5) The music icon is said to have over 800 songs to his credit.
(6). He was crowned the ‘King’ of Music by the Arts Council in 1973 after winning a nationwide music competition.
(7) Nana Ampadu left behind eight children namely Kwadwo Ampadu, Kwaku Amoh Samuel Ampadu, Michael Kwaku Nyarko Ampadu, Naomi Ampadu, Sheila Ampadu, Kwabena Gyimah Amoah Anthony Ampadu
