After a highly publicized legal battle, Britney Spears’ father has been officially removed from her conservatorship.
According to the Associated Press, Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny suspended Jamie Spears from the 13-year guardianship, which gave him control over the pop star’s finances and personal life.
Britney spoke out about the conservatorship during a series of shocking testimonies earlier this year, detailing the alleged abuse she endured at the hands of her dad and co-conservators.
Britney expressed her desire to charge her father with “conservatorship abuse,” claiming she was ordered to work against her will, was forced to use contraception, and was drugged with medication that is used to treat bipolar disorder, among a slew of other allegations.
In court documents filed this week, the singer’s attorney Mathew Rosengart accused Jamie of crossing “unfathomable lines” by allegedly monitoring Britney’s phone calls.
The invasion of privacy claims were highlighted in the New York Times documentary Controlling Britney Spears, which broke down the extensive surveillance methods allegedly carried out by Black Box Security, a private security agency hired by Britney’s father.
Shortly before the film’s premiere, Jamie filed a petition to end his daughter’s conservatorship all together.
The judge has yet to rule whether the conservatorship will be completely terminated.
