The Chief Technology Officer of Qisimah, Solomon Appier-Sign has explained why Ghanaian music is hard to access on Amazon’s Alexa, an issue which was recently brought up by singer, Stephanie Benson.
According to the digital music expert, Alexa relies on a user’s preferred music platform to search through songs, a situation that makes it difficult for Ghanaian music to be identified because genres such as highlife and hiplife have not been added to the prominent categories on the various platforms.
Appiah-Sign advised that instead of introducing several insignificant genres, Ghanaian musicians must agree to submit their songs under one major genre like “highlife” in order to make them easily recognizable in the international market.
