Ghanaian music duo, Reggie n Bollie have been forced to backtrack on their attempt to call for public sympathy for Manchester United player, Mason Greenwood, who has been arrested by UK police in a case of assault after his girlfriend, Harriet Robson, shared pictures and videos of her badly bruised face as evidence of him beating her.
The tweet indicated that Greenwood was too young to bear full responsibility for the act, and thus people should not be hard on him.
The group has deleted the tweet, which attracted several criticisms from fans, many of whom saw it as an attempt to deliberately play down the seriousness of the crime alleged to have been committed by the 20-year-old footballer.
Below is a screenshot of the deleted tweet and some reactions:
Hi @ReggieNBollie don’t worry you absolute pieces of shit, I saved your disgusting tweet. pic.twitter.com/RI15Wsk2v1

Why defend such abhorrent behaviour? Than post a laughing emoji after you’ve deleted? pic.twitter.com/e1pOfBqrEy

Hey @ReggieNBollie, how old were you when you realised beating your partner up is wrong? Justifying male violence against women this way while offering not a word of empathy for the actual victim is why so many continue to suffer in silence. pic.twitter.com/2OZGxrVJjm
