The family of highlife guitarist, Emmanuel Koomson aka King Shabo, has announced funeral arrangements for the late popular instrumentalist.

The leader of the popular King Shabo Band, who was adjudged Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2003 Ghana Music Awards, passed on in November 2021, two years after he was reportedly taken ill.

His body will be laid in state on Saturday, February 26 2022, in his family house near Yegoala Hotel in Accra at 8:00 am.

A thanksgiving service will be held at Destiny Altar Ministries at Mile 11, Accra, followed by final funeral rites at House Number GA 503 2403.

There will also be a special memorial concert in his honour on February 26, 2022 at Dansoman (Afrik Gardens) where his band used to play.

Known for his brilliance on the strings, King Shabo, played the bass parts for several highlife songs, including “Christy,” by the defunct group, Dobble, which won the award for Highlife Song of the Year at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

Shabo made a cameo appearance in the official music video which has over 1 million views on YouTube.
