American music mogul, and entrepreneur, has revealed how much he enjoys the song ‘Sugarcane’ by Ghanaian artiste, Camidoh.

Akon, in a Q&A session with Ghanaian social media influencer, Kalyjay, on February 24, praised Camidoh for his efforts and disclosed that he has added Camidoh’ new song to his playlist of Top 10 favourite songs.

“I have heard that song (Sugarcane). That record is a monster,” Akon said. “I have that record. It is one of my top ten records that I play every day.”

Sugarcane is currently receiving an overwhelming reception from music lovers worldwide. According to data presented by Apple Music, the song produced by Phantom became the number 1 song in Ghana in February 2022. It was also peaked up at number 1 on Audiomack and number 7 on Boomplay Music. It currently sits at number 7 on Shazam’s top 200 global afrobeats charts.

Camidoh has attributed the success of his song to online promotion, by social media influencers, particularly TikTok.

The 28-year-old, who is also a record producer, was on Citi TV’s ‘The Chat’ to promote the premiering of the official Sugarcane music video.

He said, he has been overwhelmed by the show of love and support from online TikTok users, who have been making interesting videos to promote the song since its release.

According to him, rapper, Tulenkey, helped him to get in touch with a TikTok video creator who decided to make videos with the song as a form of promotion.

“Tulenkey loved the song very much, so he introduced me to Tiktoker, ‘Sabrina,’ who also liked the song and seriously promoted it with her friends.”

He announced that a remix of the song, featuring King Promise and a guest artiste from Nigerian, will be released in March 2022 followed by an EP titled “Need My Flowers.”

Camido said he would release the official instrumental of Sugarcane, with the hope that some unsung artists will “jump on it” to make their own hit songs.

Sugarcane is currently occupying the number 2 position on the ‘Citi Countdown’ show on Citi TV.
