Media personality Abeiku Santana says national borders and bureaucratic systems have become barriers to the development of tourism in West Africa.
According to the tourism advocate, he cannot wait to see a borderless West African Region.
Abeiku Santana was commenting on a statement made by the France Ambassador to Ghana Ms Anne Sophie-Ave that a single visa for the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) could increase tourist visits to Ghana and spur economic growth.
In a reply to that statement, Abeiku Santana said currently, ECOWAS countries have closed their land borders to some member states and it is virtually impossible to travel to some West African countries by flight within a day.
He then urged West African leaders to wake up because tourism is the game changer and one of the surest ways to poverty alleviation.
Abeiku Santana added that the leaders of ECOWAS must rethink the ideal objectives and definitions of the economic community of West African States as it claims.
