Comedian OB Amponsah would probably have ‘chopped’ some slaps if Louisa Laryea, the wife of broadcaster Israel Laryea was at his Popular But Broke comedy show in December last year.
Louisa took to social media to lambast the two-time Entertainment Achievement Awards’ Best Stand-up comedian of the Year and added he would experience a ‘Will Smith moment’ if he did not change his ways.
“There’s a very STUPID miserable local comedian so-called, by name #OB_Amponsah. Obviously another badly brought up child. Misbehaving all over the place in the name of comedy.
His Will Smith moment beckons, if he stays his nonsensical course.
#FoolishBoy,” she wrote.
While a lot of social media users wondered what OB may have done wrong, the comedian, put up a clip of his performance at the ‘Popular But Broke’ show, in which he made a joke about Louisa’s husband Israel Laryea and his COVID-19 experience.
The video was captioned: “Louisa Laryea called me on phone to berate me for making this observation about her hubby Israel Laryea during my Popular But Broke set. She’s also taken to her Facebook wall to call me names and claims she will go Will Smith on me next time she sees me. 😁
I’m still befuddled at how she understood this simple observation. Have you spoken to your husband about this pointless course you are on, Louisa?”
In the video, OB highlighted Israel’s account after he caught the coronavirus and recovered last year.
He also made a joke of how well the Multimedia Group Limited, the company Israel works with, must have paid him as salary, because he had said in his account that he isolated in his boys quarters when he had COVID-19. The comedian even compared Israel to Nana Lion, a presenter at Pluzz FM, who he claimed “ain’t got sh*t.”
In the wake of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars for telling a joke about his wife’s hair, a lot of Ghanaian comedians have been calling on comedy lovers not to take their jokes to heart.
This is not the first time OB has had an issue with people after telling a joke.
On 24th December, 2019, he made a joke at Citi FM’s Decemba 2 Rememba show about former President John Mahama that got some people enraged.
Currently, OB Amponsah, a trained optometrist, has been touted as one of the most sought-after stand-up comedians in Ghana.
Apart from headlining and emceeing a lot of shows in Ghana, his name will also go down the history of Ghanaian comedy as one of the comedians who shut down a comedy show in Nigeria.
His performance in Nigeria at the ‘Lords of the Ribs’ which was held on September 28 and September 29, 2019, at the Eko Hotel, still lingers on the minds of comedy lovers who watched it.
